The “Forum pour la Memoire Vigilante” (FMV) in partnership with the international NGO, Spirit In Action (SIA), is carrying out a pig farming project in the district of Muhanga located in the Southern province of Rwanda.

“The project starts with three adult pigs which will each give at least six to eight piglets in six months. In one year we will have a large number of pigs”, explains the veterinarian who closely monitors this breeding for the FMV.

A modern pigsty was built with regular employees on the advice of a veterinarian who follows this project. The pigs will be taken care of and fed by FMV for a certain period, just before the beneficiary community is able to take charge of this breeding according to Mr Jean de Dieu Niyongabo, Project Manager.

The main objective of this breeding is to increase the ways of living of the refugee’s community.

“The farm will be made available to the refugee community of Muhanga who will have to form either a cooperative or an association that will help them to work together.

The FMV will of course guide them with the intervention of the local administration. The refugee community of Muhanga district is made of about50 families, no more than two hundred refugees anyway, so the farm will be given to them. This is at least our contribution of increasing the ways of living of the refugee’s community. Says the legal Representative of FMV Mr. Ferdinand Ndayiragije.

It is a capital for a better Future, he insists.

“With about more than 50 pigs in a year, the cooperative (or the association) can get a mortgage to take out a bank loan from a microfinance or a financial institution. This will help the members to expand the project either to agriculture or to do another business. In any case, we will be reassured that no member can run out of food, pay a modest rent or pay school fees, even for a single child. This is our wish and success.” Inform the FMV officials.

The fight against loneliness is also another objective, not the least.

“In six months, at least the refugees will have to do day to day monitoring of their pig farming. They will take turns, meet people and suddenly get to know each other, free themselves, get rid of solitude. Social and mutual help will follow because they will have something in common. If one is sick, has given birth or has lost his beloved one, others will support him in celebrating or sharing the pain or bringing him help. What success, important, other than his one? They rejoice.

Expansion of the social base.

The FMV was known in the humanitarian field as the schooling of about thirty pupils and schoolchildren and the supervision of young people during the holidays, the fight against unwanted pregnancies, training on peace education, the resolution peace of inter-community conflicts, the fight against genocide and related atrocities, the fight against menstrual precariousness among women with the distribution of feminine sanitary napkins, the resilience of refugees, …

Most of these projects are carried put in collaboration with partners such as the Burundian Community of Texas (BCT), the International Coalition of Site of Conscience, the Flaming Chalice International, BMCAC understanding for building, AEGIS Trust and many others, Spirit in Action (SIA) which is already registered in the registers of essential partners of the FMV for having participated in other community resilience projects.

“For the moment, we want to open up horizons, we want to open up horizons, actively participate in communities and engage basic sectors such as agriculture and livestock, but everything contributes towards resilience and education for peace. We want these victims of crises to become actors for peace in the great lakes region”, declared the legal representative of FMV.

The Forum pour la Mémoire Vigilante (FMV) is an organization under Rwandan law, which is based on the values of Memory, Education and prevention.

We have seen humanitarian organizations developing, vulnerable people leaving the stage of vulnerability at the stage of contributing to their countries, we are on the right path. We have witnessed crimes that result from poverty, lack of education,… What we are doing will help us to face them. Together we will succeed.
