On the occasion of World Refugee Day, celebrated on June 20, 2026, under the theme “Until Everyone Is Safe ” (Until Everyone Is Safe), the “Forum pour la Mémoire Vigilante, (FMV)” calls for a renewed commitment to recognizing and supporting Refugee-Led Organizations (RLOs), whose contribution remains essential to building a more just, inclusive, and safe world.
The FMV wishes to pay tribute to the millions of people forced to flee their homes around the world, while highlighting the vital role of RLOs in promoting inclusion, resilience, and community development.
This day serves as a reminder that safety is a fundamental human right and that refugees are not merely recipients of aid, but also agents of change capable of contributing to the search for solutions to the challenges facing their communities.
Refugees: Agents of Change
Around the world, refugee-led organizations are playing an increasingly important role in the areas of education, protection, economic empowerment, community health, social cohesion, and the defense of human rights.
Thanks to their close ties to the communities they serve, these organizations understand the realities on the ground and develop innovative, inclusive, and sustainable responses to the needs of displaced populations.
Inclusion as the Foundation of Security
This year’s theme highlights a fundamental reality: no one can be fully secure as long as others live in insecurity, marginalization, or forced exile.
When refugees have access to education, economic opportunities, essential services, and spaces for participation, they become full-fledged actors in the development of their communities. Refugee-led organizations (RLOs) contribute to this dynamic by fostering mutual trust, social cohesion, and peaceful coexistence between displaced populations and host communities.
Recognizing RLOs to Strengthen Their Impact
The experience of several countries that have established frameworks promoting the recognition and participation of refugee-led organizations demonstrates that an inclusive approach not only contributes to the protection of displaced persons but also strengthens local development, social cohesion, and community resilience.
Legal and institutional recognition of RLOs strengthens their capacity to act, facilitates their access to partnerships, and enables them to participate more fully in decisions affecting refugees and host communities.
The FMV Committed to Inclusion and Peace
As a refugee-led organization, the Forum for Vigilant Memory (FMV) remains convinced that the inclusion, participation, and empowerment of refugees and displaced persons are essential drivers for building resilient communities and lasting peace.
Through its work in the areas of remembrance, human rights, peace education, and community development, the FMV is committed to promoting initiatives that foster coexistence and strengthen community capacity.
“Because until everyone is safe, our collective responsibility remains”
